What is the San Francisco BottleBank™?

The BottleBank™ program is an innovative mobile recycling program in San Francisco that utilizes specially made bags with preloaded bar codes that can be tied to a consumer’s account to provide a convenient and easy way to get their redemption back. The pilot is designed to increase redemption rates of aluminum, plastic, glass, and bi-metal beverage containers that have California Redemption Value (CRV) and to return those deposits directly back to the consumers.

How is the San Francisco Conservation Corps involved with the BottleBank™ program?

The San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) is a critical partner in the BottleBank™ program providing the operations component of the BottleBank™ program. SFCC operates the mobile California Redemption Value (CRV redemption sites and the recycling sorting. As a comprehensive job training and educational program serving youth ages 18 to 26, we connect youth with inspiring work, quality education, and a better future.

Did you know?

Did you know? BottleBank™ is using state-of-the-art A.I. Technology to calculate the California Redemption Value (CRV) of the beverage containers we receive from customers.

  • This A.I. system speeds up the CRV calculation process to help customers get their money faster.

Did you know? When you place an item in your bottle bank bag, it must remain intact.

  • That means that you should not crush your beverage containers when placing them in the bag. The A.I. system that takes a picture of the bag's contents cannot determine a crushed beverage container's California Redemption Value (CRV).

Did you know? To participate in the BottleBank™ program, you need to use special blue bags with a Q.R. Code.

  • The Q.R. Code enables the BottleBank™ team to associate the bag with your account. You can obtain the special blue bags at the BottleBank™ mobile sites and participating retailers. You can find these locations on sfbottlebank.org or the BottleBank™ mobile app.
