Organization Summary:

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job‐training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job‐training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap‐ around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers, and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.

Pay rate: $25- $27 Hourly

    Corpsmember Supervision:

  • Conduct daily Corpsmember project‐specific training and ensure that all safety procedures are followed at the project site.

  • Act independently or in conjunction with the Field Operations and Corpsmember Development teams to resolve inappropriate behavior and personnel issues.

  • Report disciplinary issues, when appropriate, to management for enforcement

  • Acts as a positive role model, making significant contributions to providing a positive work environment that values diversity and fosters a commitment to teamwork and learning.

  • Empower Corpsmembers to achieve their educational goals, while assisting the Field Operations and Corpsmember Development teams in training at the project site and/or in classroom settings

  • Project Operations and Implementation:

  • Coordinate daily with the Field Operations team to successfully dispatch crews to project sites on time and with the appropriate equipment.

  • Work with the Natural Resources Manager and Dispatcher to make sure the route schedule for tree maintenance and watering is set and adhered to.

  • Produce a level of crew productivity and project quality that meets the expectations of SFCC and project partners.

  • Work with respective Program Coordinator and Manager to ensure all administrative documentation and project reporting are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of project‐specific training.

  • Maintain and properly care for all project equipment and vehicles.

  • Work with respective Coordinator and Manager to resolve project operational challenges.

  • Collaborate with other SFCC staff on Corpsmember recruitment, disciplinary enforcement, and terminations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 2 years of project experience in a supervisory capacity.

  • Working with tree maintenance and tree care

  • Strong horticulture experience, vegetation management, urban farming, basic landscaping, and habitat restoration.

  • Driving an agency vehicle on a set route

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff to work collaboratively.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software and databases. –

  • Strong Organizational skills, and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. –

  • Effective conflict resolution skills. –

  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of hire. –

  • Earned High School Diploma or GED –

  • Clean DMV record, with the ability to earn a California Class B driver’s license. –

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work in adverse weather conditions.

  • Desire and ability to work in a fast‐paced and diverse environment.

    The following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • Experience in a related field, especially focused on professional driving, landscaping, horticulture, vegetation, habitat restoration, urban farming or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Experience in the operation of trucks and trailers preferred.

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools preferred

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical avenues of obtaining the appropriate knowledge and abilities for this position are as follows:

  • At least two years of college education or vocational training in natural resource management, environmental studies, job training or counseling, from an accredited college or university

  • Experience in youth development, project management, or the implementation of natural resource projects

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk; and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls. Also, the employee may be required to lift up to 75 lbs., pull up to 150 lbs., reach with hands and arms, and perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. Other situations include sitting at a desk while using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a flatbed truck for long periods; intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding the desk and climbing a ladder to a flatbed truck.
