Training Coordinator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Training Coordinator is primarily responsible for developing and facilitating technical skills training for Corpsmembers related to SFCC programs and projects. This position will be essential in SFCC’s ability to fulfil job readiness program needs and complete SFCC fee-for-service projects. Training includes but is not limited to, proper workplace safety procedures, hands-on tool use, horticulture skills, environmental advocacy, professionalism, and teamwork. Training coordinators should be readily available to work on natural resources and recycling projects, as needed. The Training Coordinator will also assist in Corpsmember and Staff onboarding and orientation. Tasks include:

  • Collaborating with Program/Project Partners to identify training needs and to develop a training curriculum

  • Work cross-functionally to develop, track, and report on training goals and outcomes

  • Work with Field Operations Coordinator to manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Earned Associate or Bachelor’s degree

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes in a positive fashion

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software

  • Clean DMV record, with the ability to earn a California Class B driver’s license

The following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • Experience in a related field, especially focused on natural resources management, landscaping, horticulture, environmental advocacy, or Zero Waste/Recycling or other equivalent experience

  • Understanding of recycling, waste management and/or conservation

  • Experience in the operation of trucks and trailers

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools

  • Knowledge of Native Plants and Ecological Restoration

  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment

Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities qualifies. Typical avenues of obtaining the appropriate knowledge and abilities for this position are as follows:

  • At least two years of experience in youth development, project management, or the implementation of recycling or natural resource projects; or

  • At least two years of college education or vocational training in natural resource management, environmental studies, job training or counselling, from an accredited college or university; or

  • Four years of supervisory experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk; use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls. Also, the employee may be required to lift up to 75 lbs., pull up to 150 lbs., reach with hands and arms, and perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. Other situations include sitting at a desk while using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a flatbed truck for long periods of time; intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding the desk and climbing a ladder to a flatbed truck.

Compensation

The salary range for this non-exempt position is $28 per hour to $32 per hour.

Organizational Summary

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job-training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18-26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service-based programs. In coordinator with job training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap-around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers, and uplifting low-income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job-training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e-waste, waste tires, and used oil.
