Organizational Summary

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) is looking for you. You want to work with the SFCC to transforms the lives of youth, with gaps in their employment and education, through on the job training and mentorship. Supervisors work directly with their own crew, known as Corpsmembers, on various projects such as landscaping, light construction, recycling, and natural resources management. Supervisors work in the field daily with their crews.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

You want to guide and mentor Corpsmembers in personal and academic development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling, and waste management issues.

The Field Project Supervisor will be a positive role model and ensure that all Corpsmembers on their crew follow guidelines for safety, behavior, and performance as outlined in the Field Projects Department protocols.

  • You are an effective leader of people and projects. You meet your targets. You have at least 1 year of experience as a supervisor.

  • You maintain your crews’ tools and equipment to the highest standards

  • You have a willingness to learn new skills related to the trades the SFCC projects need. WE WILL TRAIN YOU.

  • You have excellent communication skills. You can build rapport with Corpsmembers and members of the community.

  • You are in control of your emotions when dealing with discipline/accountability issues out in the field.

  • You enjoy working with youth.

  • You are a self-starter who can prioritize the day’s tasks and delegate them as needed.

  • You understand the soft skills needed for people to succeed in the world of work and enjoy teaching through your actions and deeds.

  • You uphold all of SFCC’s policies for yourself and your team including following all SFCC safety in the workplace including maintaining SFCC’s COVID protocols.

  • Your positive attitude carries you through the day as you maintain a positive and productive inclusive crew culture.

  • You can maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Experience working with diverse populations. Ability to supervise and motivate young adults from a wide variety of social, economic, and educational backgrounds, enrolled in a job-training program.

  • Effective conflict resolution skills.

  • At least 1-year experience as a supervisor.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff to work collaboratively.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Understanding of power tools, construction, and landscaping preferred but the SFCC will train.

  • First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of hire.

  • Clean DMV record. Ability to secure a California Class B upon hire.

Physical Demands

This is a physical position. The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You will be standing and walking frequently. You will use your hands to operate objects, tools, or controls on various equipment (Bobcat, forklift, flatbed truck. You may be lifting to 75 lbs., pulling up to 150 lbs., reaching with hands and arms, and performing simple grasping and fine manipulation.

Other situations include sitting at a desk while using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a flatbed truck for medium to long periods of time; intermittently twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk and climbing ladder to a flatbed truck.
