Organization Summary

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap-around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.

Job Summary

The Natural Resources Manager will take a leadership role to develop and oversee all aspects of SFCC’s Natural Resources program. The Natural Resources Manager is responsible for all aspects of natural resources, including, but not limited to, job training and safety compliance, revenue generation, and achievement of agency goals.  The Natural Resources Manager is responsible for facilitating communication, integrating all natural resources and other departments within SFCCs, and creating a positive atmosphere to encourage learning and high-quality project completion.

SFCC’s program guides and mentors participants, known as Corpsmembers, in personal and academic development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling, and natural resource issues. The Natural Resources Manager will ensure that all operational staff provide Corpsmembers with initial and ongoing mentorship and educational support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Operations Management (50%)

  • Track field project outcomes and program deliverables.

  • Provide day-to-day support for the Supervisors and supervise Corpsmembers when necessary, work with teams on biannual goal setting and evaluations.

  • Develop and administer Corpsmember project-specific training program and track Corpsmember progress.

  • Support Special Events Supervisors in preparing, communicating, and successful outcomes of community events with the Manager team, as required.

  • Collaborate with the Leadership team and Field Projects Coordinator to develop performance measures for Field Operations

  • Ensure all Corpsembers in field operations programs participate in SFCC’s training program and coordinate with other departments to develop appropriate training.

  • Compile data and submit monthly status reports to the Leadership team.

  • Complete, submit and file all compliance documentation.

  • Compile budget reports and facilitate with finance departments accurate budget projections.

  • Collaborate with other SFCC staff on Corpsmember recruitment, disciplinary issues and terminations.

  • Lead projects and supervise Corpsmembers as needed.

  • Report Program challenges to the Director of Field Operations, successes, failures, and necessary outcomes.

Grants Discovery & Management (25%)

  • Grants discovery and development of project goals, objectives and new projects applicable to the field program.

  • Track, input, and oversee data into tracking systems and databases for field operations collections, grant objectives and Corpsmember hours.

  • Maintain a clear understanding of all current agreements and grants within the program and the projected outcomes of those grants.

  • Compile data and develop compliance and grant reports for Field Operations Program operations.

Safety Program Development & Management (25%)

  • Abide by all occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines

  • Inspect worksites and review working conditions

  • Document reports of occurrences and record statistical information

  • Develop and implement OHS training programs

  • Oversee disposal of substances according to environmental guidelines

  • Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met

  • Intervene to stop any acts or processes which are unsafe or do not comply with OHS guidelines

  • Implement preventative measures to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated

  • Ensure all personnel follow all personal safety precautions (hard hats, protective goggles, etc.)

  • Update procedures and policies for new regulations or local ordinances

  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed and Corpsmember safety trainings are administered.

  • Develop and maintain the SFCC safety programs, which include Corpsmember safety-focused training, first aid and vehicle safety supplies, and facility safety issues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A college degree in management, environmental science, business, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Four or more years of experience in a management position is preferred.

  • Extensive experience and technical skills in operations, including contracting and project management, are preferred.

  • Experience in program development, grant management, and reporting preferred.

  • Must have superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively represent SFCC with funders, project sponsors, and the community.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and experience with MS Office software and databases.

  • Experience in developing and managing budgets.

  • Proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and mediate disputes.

  • Clean driving record and ability to obtain a CA Class B driver’s license.

Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

The Natural Resources Director sometimes works outdoors around equipment and machinery, walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides, with exposure to excessive noise, fumes, and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and carry objects at least 1/4 mile. This position frequently uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the Natural Resources Director is required to walk and stand, sit and bend, squat and climb, kneel and twist, and talk or hear. Use their hands to perform simple, power grasping, and fine manipulation to push and pull.

Additionally, there are normal office working conditions and associated physical demands. For example, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk using a computer and in meetings for long periods of time. Intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding the desk.

Compensation

Job Type: Full-time | Exempt

Pay rate: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
