Compensation: $26-$31 per hour based on experience

Organization Summary

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job‐training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job‐training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap‐around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.

Job Summary

The Case Worker provides case management and supportive services for Corpsmembers and John Muir Academy students in the areas of housing, child care, resolving legal issues, physical/mental health, substance use, transportation, domestic/gang violence, trauma, grief/loss, and relationship/family issues. This includes developing, providing, maintaining, monitoring, documenting, and tracking all supportive services for Corpsmembers. This position will also act as the Intake Coordinator and facilitate all intake, assessment, enrollment, data tracking, and database management, with a strong focus on the Workforce Development program and Workforce Central database. Responsibilities include but are not limited to working with Corpsmembers/students to complete intake and enrollment, assess and identify barriers to participation and employment; developing an individualized plan to address and overcome barriers; providing ongoing individual and group services designed to assist with successfully removing barriers; maintaining confidential Corpsmember files and case notes; entering information into databases/spreadsheets; completing assigned reports; and facilitating post program follow up support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Case Management

  • Manage an assigned caseload of Corpsmembers and Academy Students

  • Conduct needs assessments, complete service plans, facilitate refers to appropriate resources/providers; provide follow-up to Corpsmembers/students who have received referrals

  • Make support services information available to Corpsmembers

  • Provide crisis intervention and support; facilitate training and discussion groups for Corpsmembers/students on issues relating to barriers that include topics such as parenting, substance abuse prevention, conflict resolution, and communication skills

  • Maintain professionalism, consistency, and objectivity in all aspects of case management duties and relationships

  • Keep apprised of, adhere to, and implement all SFCC policies and procedures

Intake/Workforce Development Coordination

  • Responsible for collaborating with Recruitment Associate on new Corpsmember intake and enrollment, with a special focus on assessing Workforce development program eligibility

  • Lead data collection and upload to internal and external databases, including Workforce Central data entry, as well as all tracking documents

Relationship Building and Development

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Corpsmembers/students

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and agencies that can provide resources/services needed for Corpsmember barrier removal

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other staff to identify and address Corpsmember information, challenges, concerns, privacy, and confidentiality

Communication

  • Develop and maintain professional open channels of communication with Corpsmembers/students

  • Maintain effective professional communication with supervisor, other SFCC staff members, and external partners

  • Ensure case management processes and systems are understood by those who are impacted by them

Administration

  • Complete all necessary administrative tasks efficiently and on time as assigned

  • Includes, but is not limited to documenting outcome and output information into various tracking spreadsheets and databases; maintaining and ensuring that Corpsmembers have updated case files with case notes and all required documentation and signatures; completing various reports.

  • 2 years of direct experience building and maintaining relationships with various local organizations, agencies, and social services.

  • Direct experience working with young adults in an education/job training environment as they work toward removing barriers.

  • Direct experience handling crisis intervention.

  • Direct experience working with clients as they address substance use issues.

Typical Working Conditions

Typical conditions include working in an office setting; constant keyboarding, handling, and other repetitive hand motions; and constant sitting. Work conditions also include visiting various neighborhoods in San Francisco by vehicle and walking.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with one or more of the following service areas: public speaking, new participant orientation, intake services, or supportive services.

  • Ability to work independently on and off-site

  • Knowledge of and comfortable with using Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

  • Valid CA Driver’s License and ability to be covered on agency license (preferred)
