About John
Muir Charter
School
The SFCC partners
with the John Muir
Charter School. The
Nevada County
(California)
Superintendent of
Schools approved the
John Muir Charter
School (Muir) charter
in 1998. Muir provides
high school services
to participants, most
of whom have had
significant breaks in
their high school
education. The
programs combine
hands-on work
experience, academic
instruction, and
individual and
community development.
Muir students
typically have faced
many personal, family,
and other challenges
in their lives, and
often have struggled
academically. Muir
classes offer students
the opportunity to
work closely with
their teacher or
teachers on all of
their subjects, and to
obtain personalized
instruction to meet
their individual
needs.
