Academic Celebration 2011! October 11, 2011

On September 23rd, 2011, SFCC Corpsmembers and their families, SFCC staff, Board and community gathered at Fort Mason Center for our Academic Celebration. In association with the John Muir Charter School we honored Corpsmembers who earned a High School Diploma or completed a career portfolio.
 
Dr. Veronica Hunnicutt, who is currently the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs at City College of San Francisco, and serves on the SF Housing Authority Commission, delivered the Keynote address. Thanks to all who attended and celebrated with us.

SFCC featured in Resource Recycling! August 11, 2011

SFCC’s Zero Waste Operations Lead Supervisor David Schmalz wrote an article for the national magazine Resource Recycling about how SFCC has taken our mission of zero waste and has turned it into a game changer for at-risk youth in San Francisco.

SFCC Partners with Street Soccer USA! July 8, 2011

SFCC's Adult Education Teacher Antoine Lagarde coaches the Bay Area Street Soccer USA team, which includes several of our Corpsmembers!

The team participated in the SSUSA Cup in Washington, D.C. in June. Antoine was chosen to coach the US Team for men, which will be competing in a 64-nation Homeless World Cup in Paris this August!

The Bay Area team was featured recently in articles by the San Francisco Chronicle and The Corps Network.

Our reception at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center’s Green Room was a huge success; bringing more than 170 people together and exceeding our fundraising goal of $50,000! Click here to find out more and view event photos.



SFO Honored by the SFCC! April 28, 2011

The San Francisco Airport will be one of the employers to be honored at our upcoming reception on May 5.

This article on the SFO website talks about SFO Career Connect, which is a workforce development program for at-risk young adults. Two successful SFCC graduates, Jamall Johnson and Kaprisha Bryant, are currently participating in the SFO Custodial Training Track of this program.


CALCC Government Education Day! March 3, 2011

On March 1st, 5 Corpsmembers traveled to Sacramento to represent San Francisco Conservation Corps at the 2011 CALCC Government Education Day.

Corpsmembers had the chance to see the Capitol and speak with Legislators about their experience at the Corps, meet Corpsmembers from all over California, and work in groups to try their hand at balancing the State budget!

SFCC Launches Arresting Awareness Campaign! October 28, 2009

On October 29, 2009, the SFCC launched a provocative ad campaign, created by Venables Bell & Partners.

“We conceived this campaign with one goal in mind, to make people stop and think. And that message, though provocative and hard-hitting, comes from the simple, fundamental truth that opportunity is the one thing that can make a difference in a young person’s life and in our communities,” said Bob Molineaux, president, VB&P.

SFCC Featured on ABC News! March 31, 2009

On March 31, 2009, KGO-TV / ABC News, aired a story featuring the SFCC and its distinguished 25-year history providing job training and eduction to young adults while simulateously improving the environment.

"Most people are environmentally conscious these days, but one Bay Area non-profit agency has been way ahead of the curve. Since 1983 the San Francisco Conservation Corps has been helping the planet and some of its most vulnerable citizens," says ABC News reporter Carolyn Tyler.
