December 2016 Green Tip: Recycling Resolutions
It’s time to start thinking about New Years’ resolutions and SFCC has a simple suggestion: RECYCLING! It’s good for you, the environment, and the community. Let’s keep re-useable goods out of the Bay Area landfills in 2016. When it comes to recycling, let’s think outside the cardboard box.
Step 1: Get a residential recycling cart and fill it up! The City offers curbside recycling, so there’s really no excuse.
Step 2: Get inspired! Do a simple web search or join Pinterest. You can find tips to transform tires, re-purpose pallets, re-finish furniture and so much more. With a little help, you can turn that junk into junque. You may even uncover a hidden talent.
Step 3: Think twice before you toss. Did you know, there are several Facebook groups created by Bay Area residents to buy, swap, sell or giveaway items they no longer need? Check it out! Your unwanted item could really help someone in our community. You may even find a few treasures yourself. It’s easy and free.
Step 4: Participate in city-wide clean up events. Earth Day is coming in April 2016. Mark your calendars and participate in a small (or large) way.
Recycling reduces pollution and waste, saves valuable resources and can result in funds for the Bay Area communities and SFCC.
San Francisco Conservation Corps participates in 14th annual Green Festival at the Cow Palace in San Francisco on November 13-15, 2015
SFCC hosted a booth to share the services we provide to the community which includes recycling of bottles, cans, ewaste, oil and tires. The SFCC booth was managed by Gwendolyn Smith who was supported by corps members.
Green Festival® is a vibrant, dynamic marketplace where companies and organizations come to showcase their green products and services, and where people go to learn how to live healthier, more sustainable lives.
This year’s Green Festival offered something for everyone, with the widest selection of products and services to work green, play green and live green from food, fashion and health to energy, construction and design. People who attended came to shop and enjoyed vegan, vegetarian, organic foods, hands-on demos, educational activities and inspirational speakers.
SFCC’s participation in the Green Festival was a unique and powerful opportunity to be part of a platform for connecting potential customers, retailers, wholesalers and corporations – all under one roof. This experience provided excellent opportunities for SFCC to be joined with many green brands that generate business-to-business and business-to-consumer sales, builds awareness and strengthens relationships in an expansive and engaging green marketplace.
Mission and Vision:
Green Festival is inspiring and empowering consumers, communities and businesses to work green, play green and live green.
At Green Festival, committed to:

As our Academic Year has come to an End
We paused to Reflect
Upon the many Memories
Which have Brought us Tears and Joy
We came to this Place Together
To Learn, to Grow, to Share
Time and Space may separate Us
But wherever our Pathways take Us
We will Always be the
